Water canal in Africa
Water is the commodity of the future. Why don’t we have a canal system built across Africa to help move the water from the flood areas to the drylands to help improve the lives of people instead of trying to get oil to get rich like everybody elseTags: None

1) Differing national priorities
2) Concerns of water security (if one country has more control over the supply than others)
3) A lack of a continental federal body with the power to drive these type of continent wide projects, and coordinate all african countries
It's a similar issue to what the EU faces, as it currently doesn't have a federal body with the authority to drive agendas like improving train networks across the EU in a coherent manner. This is why talk of a Eureopean Federation has popped up every now and then.
It's a good question to ask, and you've sparked my interest to look more into whether any attempts towards this have ever been made on a national, regional or contentinetal level.
