I'm an electric car driver and owner of an electric vehicle and I will tell you this from my experience. My background is in electrical engineering technician. I also work around electrical battery as well as solar when I was in school, after as a career. Lithium ion battery packs with nickel Cobalt for example will last a very long time. People ask me how long do these electric car batteries last. It's a very good question. Currently for example my Chevrolet bolt lasts a very long time when I take care of it I only charging from from 20% to 80% every time needed to charge my weekly and for long distance road trips 100% for say once a week . There is an electric car owner in Korea that owns a Chevrolet Bolt electric car that has an estimated odometer range of 400,000 km. Thats. 248548.477 miles. Yes electric car batteries are expensive if the battery breaks down. Yes it would cost you $16,000 to replace. But please keep this in mind most gas cars would have their engine breakdowns close to 150,000 km to 200,000 km depending how they take care of their vehicle. Electric car batteries last past that. And I don't have to explain the difference in repair costs. By the year 2030 the price parity will come to $5,000 to replace the battery pack. But right now if you ask me the difference between a gas car percentage in replacement of the engine versus the electric vehicle replacement of the battery I'll give you the stats.
